DIY your own Internet Smart Fridge
Why spend a fortune on an Internet fridge when accessory maker Belkin has come up with a new way to skin the same cat: a gadget that can - with the help of an iPad 2 - turn any fridge into something more web friendly.
The Belkin Wall Mount is an iPad 2 accessory made specifically for the iPad 2, designed to take advantage of the magnets used for attaching Apple's Smart Covers.
Installing the Wall Mount is easy: simply detach the mounting plate, use the supplied 3M Command mounting adhesive to stick the plastic plate to a part of your fridge, wait an hour or two, and then slide the iPad 2 Wall Mount over the mounting plate.
With the Wall Mount in place, push the iPad in with the camera on the right side. You can't push it in the other way, thanks to the requirements of the magnets in the Wall Mount.
With the Wall Mount installed, you're ready to 'activate' your internet fridge - so just to grab your iPad, remove it from any case you've got it in, and slide it into the mount.
With the Belkin iPad 2 Wall Mount attached, your fridge now has net access and whilst in the kitchen you can now access recipes, surf the web, watch YouTube, all without leaving the cooking area.
While we're not sure how much the real 'Smart' fridges will cost, we can almost guarantee that still they set you back a lot more than a Belkin Wall Mount and iPad 2.
